Netflix’s Castlevania anime series gained massive popularity, leading to the release of Castlevania: Nocturne—a sequel focusing on Richter Belmont, a descendant of Trevor Belmont. Set centuries after the original series, Nocturne sees Europe facing a new, even more terrifying threat than Dracula. In its second season, the show introduces Erzsebet Báthory, the so-called “vampire messiah,” and ramps up the stakes.
This season also brings in new allies to aid Richter: the mage Annette, his grandfather Juste, a young sorceress named Maria, and Alucard, Dracula’s dhampir son. Together, they engage in a high-stakes battle that blends action and style. While the season delivers an exciting adventure, there’s one key element missing that could have made it even better.
Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2: A Visual Masterpiece
Incredible Fights and Aesthetic Character Designs
The original Castlevania video game series was known for its immersive spectacle, with its monster battles and rich European settings. The anime adaptation followed this legacy, and Nocturne Season 2 takes it even further. The action is more intense, and the creatures, such as Olrox in dragon form and the monstrous beings summoned by Maria and Erzsebet, are visually stunning. Powerhouse Animation Studios has raised the animation quality, making the movement smoother and more dynamic.
The show doesn’t just stick to its video game roots; it expands beyond them. One standout example is the character Drolta, an aristocratic vampire priestess. Tasked with helping Erzsebet reincarnate as the brutal goddess Sekhmet, Drolta quickly steals the spotlight. With her menacing demeanor and chilling goals, she’s a force to be reckoned with, reminding viewers of other iconic villains like Thanos from the MCU. Her presence brings both gore and compelling speeches about humanity’s destructive nature.
This season also shines in its action sequences. The choreography is top-notch, particularly in battles involving Drolta and her minions, allowing the show’s spectacular monsters to shine. These intense, visually striking fights make Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 one of the most impressive anime experiences on Netflix.
Despite its many strengths, there’s still one element that could elevate this season to even greater heights.
