The anime industry continues to grow rapidly, and 2025 promises to be one of its biggest years yet. For the first time, fans can directly influence which manga will receive major anime adaptations. Starting on January 15, 2025, AnimeJapan is launching its “Manga We Want To See Animated” poll. During the event, fans can vote for their favorite serialized manga that they believe deserves an anime adaptation. The top ten manga with the most votes will be showcased at AnimeJapan 2025.
There’s one important rule: manga that have previously won the poll and been inducted into the Hall of Fame are not eligible for nomination again. Many Hall of Fame entries, such as Komi Can’t Communicate, Dangers in My Heart, and Senpai Is an Otokonoko, have already been adapted into anime. This year’s nominees feature a wide range of manga, from heart-wrenching josei romances to action-packed shonen stories.
Some of the most notable nominees for the 2025 poll include:
Firefly Wedding: A twisted love story about an assassin and a sick woman who proposes marriage to him in hopes of surviving.
Gokurakugai: A blend of horror, comedy, action, and drama, following two troublemaking “troubleshooters.”
I Cannot Reach You: A boys’ love manga about two childhood friends struggling to build a deeper connection.
Kindergarten Wars: The story of Rita, a former assassin tasked with protecting the children of the ultra-rich as they attend school.
Past Polls Show the Power of Fan Votes
Though it may seem surprising that fan polls could influence anime studios, AnimeJapan’s past popularity polls have proven to be surprisingly impactful. In 2020, manga series like Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family, Komi Can’t Communicate, The Way of the Househusband, and The Apothecary Diaries all ranked highly. Remarkably, every one of these series was later picked up by animation studios for adaptations.
In 2024, titles like Kagurabachi gained attention after being featured in the poll, and there are rumors that CygamesPictures is currently working on an animated version of the manga.
While it’s still uncertain which manga from the 2025 poll will be adapted into anime, the event is a great opportunity to celebrate the diversity of manga being serialized in Japan and for fans to have their voices heard.
