The highly anticipated My Hero Academia final season will premiere in the fall of 2025, marking the conclusion of one of anime’s most popular and influential series. In addition, an anime adaptation of the My Hero Academia spin-off Vigilantes is set to air in April 2025, expanding the universe of the iconic franchise.
My Hero Academia: A Heroic Legacy
My Hero Academia, a superhero action manga by Kohei Horikoshi, concluded its 10-year serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump in August 2024. The series takes place in a world where superhuman abilities known as “quirks” are common, following the journey of Izuku Midoriya, a young boy born without a quirk who dreams of becoming a hero. Over the course of the series, Midoriya trains at U.A. High School, a prestigious institution that molds future heroes, while battling villains who misuse their quirks for evil.
The My Hero Academia manga has garnered immense success, surpassing 100 million copies in circulation globally. Its anime adaptation has been a key factor in its worldwide popularity, and the upcoming final season will adapt the series’ final chapters, beginning with volume 40 of the manga. This will bring the intense battle between Midoriya and his arch-nemesis Tomura Shigaraki to its dramatic conclusion, along with the climactic confrontation between the legendary “Symbol of Peace” All Might in his armored form and the villainous All for One, the “Demon King.”
The end of the manga earlier this year sent waves of excitement and speculation across the fanbase, with many eager to see how the anime would tackle the final chapters. The upcoming season promises to deliver a fitting conclusion to the long-running series.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes to Get Anime Adaptation
In addition to the final season of My Hero Academia, Vigilantes, a spin-off set in the same universe, will receive its own anime adaptation. Slated for release in April 2025, Vigilantes offers a unique perspective on the My Hero Academia world, focusing on the underground vigilantes—heroes who work outside the law and remain unrecognized by society.
Vigilantes is set a few years before the events of the main series and explores the lives of individuals who, despite not having the public approval enjoyed by licensed heroes, take justice into their own hands. The manga, written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court, was serialized from 2017 to 2022 in the Shōnen Jump+ app, with 15 volumes published.
The upcoming anime will follow these vigilantes as they confront societal issues, all while avoiding the spotlight and saving those in need in secret. A teaser visual released alongside the announcement shows the protagonist perched on a rooftop, gazing over a neon-lit city, setting the tone for the series. The accompanying teaser PV introduces the main vigilante characters as well as familiar faces from the My Hero Academia universe, with narration provided by Daiki Yamashita, the voice of Midoriya himself.
A New Chapter for the My Hero Academia Franchise
With the final season of My Hero Academia and the arrival of Vigilantes on the horizon, fans of the franchise have much to look forward to in 2025. While the final season will bring closure to the ongoing battles and character arcs in the main storyline, Vigilantes offers a fresh angle, giving viewers a glimpse into the world of unacknowledged heroes operating outside the law.
Both the teaser visual and the PV for Vigilantes have sparked significant excitement, building anticipation for the contrasting portrayal of heroism. Where My Hero Academia features its public, licensed heroes fighting for justice in the spotlight, Vigilantes will focus on those who remain hidden in the shadows, adding complexity to the broader My Hero Academia universe.
As the anime adaptations prepare to air, the My Hero Academia franchise continues to expand, promising thrilling new chapters for fans to enjoy in the coming year.
