Manga artist Yū Toyota, best known for his hit series Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!, has announced the launch of a brand new series titled Naraku no Hoshi (Star of the Abyss). The manga will begin serialization on Square Enix’s Gangan pixiv website on December 28, with the first volume set for release on January 21, 2025.
Toyota’s previous work, Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!, originally serialized on pixiv’s Gangan pixiv platform in 2018, gained widespread popularity. The series, which mixes romance and fantasy, inspired a range of adaptations, including a Japanese live-action television series that aired on TV Tokyo in 2020, followed by a two-episode spinoff later that year. The success of the manga also led to a live-action film sequel, released in Japan in April 2022, and a television anime adaptation that debuted in January 2024. Crunchyroll streamed both the anime series and its English dub, with a special edited version currently showing in theaters across Japan.
Along with the new manga series, Toyota’s Cherry Magic! franchise continues to grow, with a stage musical adaptation scheduled to run from April 11 to April 20 at Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, and later from April 25 to April 27 at the Iplaza Toyohashi in Aichi.
Fans of Toyota’s previous work are eagerly awaiting Naraku no Hoshi, which promises to offer a fresh and exciting direction. As the series prepares for its December 28 debut, expectations are high for its potential to captivate a wide audience.
