A Rich Legacy
The franchise originated from Kaoru Hayamine’s Kaitō Queen novels, first launched in 2000. The debut full-length novel, Mirage Queen Prefers Circus, was released in 2002 under Kadokawa’s Aoitori Bunko label with illustrations by K2 Shōkai. The series has since expanded to include multiple entries, with the latest novel published on July 10, 2023.
The novels’ first screen adaptation, the OVA Mirage Queen Prefers Circus, premiered in June 2022. Yūga Yamato, known for his role as Tuxedo Mask in the Sailor Moon stage plays, starred as Queen. Saori Den directed the OVA at East Fish Studio, with Mariko Kunisawa as scriptwriter and Kumiko Kawashima as character designer.
Fans eagerly await the return of the Mirage Queen franchise with the upcoming film, promising another thrilling adventure led by its enigmatic protagonist.
