The highly anticipated second season of The Apothecary Diaries anime has unveiled its main trailer, featuring the opening theme song, “Hyakka Ryoran” (“A Profusion of Flowers”), performed by singer-songwriter Lilas Ikuta. Known for her role as the vocalist of YOASOBI under the stage name Ikura, this marks Ikuta’s first solo performance for a TV anime series.
Streaming platform Crunchyroll has confirmed it will simulcast the new season starting January 2025.
Ikuta Reflects on Her Role
The trailer showcases Ikuta’s dynamic new track, blending her signature style with themes inspired by The Apothecary Diaries. Reflecting on her involvement, Ikuta said:
“Because I experienced firsthand the response to the first season, I am very honored to be in charge of the opening theme for the second season. I worked on the song with the intent of bringing a fresh perspective to the anime’s world while channeling my love for the story and its characters.”
Introduction of New Character, Shisui
Accompanying the trailer, the official website also revealed a visual of Shisui, a new character described as a “chatty, cheerful, insect-loving servant girl.”
Asami Seto, known for her roles in The Rising of the Shield Hero (Raphtalia) and other popular series, has been cast as Shisui. Seto expressed her enthusiasm:
“This work is full of my favorite things: the historical setting, the incidents in the back palace, Maomao’s mystery-solving, and the cool Jinshi-sama. I’m thrilled to participate as a voice actor in this series.”
A Journey Continues
Following the success of its first season, which aired from October 2023 to March 2024, the second season of The Apothecary Diaries is set to premiere in Japan on January 10, 2025. Crunchyroll will stream the series for audiences across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS regions.
