Square Enix, Aniplex, and Crunchyroll Announce Release Date for Highly Anticipated New Season.
The highly anticipated new chapter of the Black Butler anime series, titled Emerald Witch Arc, is set to premiere in April 2025. The announcement comes from Square Enix, Aniplex, and Crunchyroll, marking the continuation of the popular dark fantasy saga.
Kenjiro Okada, who directed the Black Butler: Public School Arc, returns to helm the Emerald Witch Arc. Okada will once again lead a talented production team at CloverWorks, which will handle the animation for the new season. The creative team includes Hiroyuki Yoshino as the series’ composition director and Yumi Shimizu as the character designer.
The core cast from previous seasons is set to return. Daisuke Ono will reprise his role as Sebastian Michaelis, while Maaya Sakamoto will return as Ciel Phantomhive. New characters will also be introduced, with Chikahiro Kobayashi voicing Wolfram Gelzer and Rie Kugimiya as Sieglinde Sullivan.
Based on Yana Toboso’s long-running manga, which debuted in 2006 and has since released over 30 volumes, Black Butler continues to captivate fans with its dark, twisted narrative. The latest volume, the 34th in the series, was released on April 26, 2024.
As with previous seasons, Crunchyroll will stream the Emerald Witch Arc worldwide as it airs in Japan. Fans can also revisit the first four seasons of Black Butler, which are currently available for streaming on the platform.
For those new to the series, Black Butler follows the tragic story of Ciel Phantomhive, a young noble boy who seeks vengeance for the brutal murder of his parents. In his pursuit of justice, Ciel forms an unholy pact with Sebastian, a demon butler, and the two embark on a dark journey to uncover the mysteries surrounding the boy’s torment.
The Emerald Witch Arc promises to bring more thrilling twists and compelling characters, ensuring that Black Butler continues to be a must-watch for fans of supernatural anime.
