Takeshita, the director, also shared insights into the adaptation process: “Reading the original story was thrilling, and I thought a lot about how to bring its panels to life in animation. The team worked hard to capture the emotions of Yoshiki and Hikaru and reflect the manga’s unique and beautiful style. We’re excited to share it with everyone.”

Official Synopsis: The Summer Hikaru Died tells the story of two childhood friends, Yoshiki and Hikaru, living in a rural Japanese village.
