Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has officially announced its collaboration with Netflix on the production of Tokyo Override, an original sci-fi anime series now streaming globally, exclusively on Netflix.
Set in a futuristic Tokyo 100 years from now, Tokyo Override envisions a world where artificial intelligence has seamlessly integrated into everyday life, and automation has transformed all aspects of urban living. The anime, which features high-octane motorcycle action, showcases both iconic and newly designed Yamaha motorcycles racing through the bustling streets of a futuristic metropolis.
The partnership between Yamaha and Netflix began when the streaming giant approached the company for permission to feature Yamaha motorcycles in the series. In response, Yamaha provided a wealth of resources including 3D data, images, and sound recordings of their signature models, such as the YZF-R1 superbike and the VMAX muscle cruiser. Yamaha’s involvement extended beyond just supplying motorcycles, as the company also contributed to the creation of the anime’s futuristic world. This included providing design ideas for the race machine concept “Y/AI” and offering expertise in sound effects supervision to enhance the immersive experience.
Featured prominently in the series, the YZF-R1, VMAX, and the futuristic Y/AI, designed specifically for the anime, will take center stage as integral components of the storyline. Yamaha has also revealed that a full-scale concept model of the Y/AI will be unveiled at the 2024 Motor Expo in Bangkok, Thailand, set to run from November 29 to December 10.
This partnership marks a significant step in Yamaha’s ongoing efforts to engage new audiences and spark interest in the world of motorcycles, while also contributing to the vibrant and innovative universe of Tokyo Override.
