The King of Prism mixed-media project has confirmed the production of a new anime installment. The announcement was made during the “Infinite Love Thanks Week Eve” event held on Thursday. While specific details regarding the format and storyline were not disclosed, the project was teased to mark the beginning of a “new stage” for the franchise.
The announcement concluded the special screening of a video titled “Infinite Love Thanks Movie,” celebrating the extended theatrical run of King of Prism: Dramatic Prism.1. The film premiered in Japan on August 16, 2024, and has since become a significant part of the King of Prism legacy. Directed by Masakazu Hishida, with a script written by Jou Aoba, the film features familiar talent from the King of Prism franchise, including character designers Mai Matsuura and Shoji Hara, and CG director Yoshihiro Otobe. Animation production was handled by Tatsunoko Production.
This upcoming anime installment follows the release of King of Prism: Dramatic Prism.1, which continues the King of Prism story after the 2020 compilation film King of Prism All Stars: Prism Show Best 10. That film showcased fan-voted top 10 Prism Shows from the series. The King of Prism franchise, a spin-off of the Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live mixed-media project, forms part of the broader Pretty Rhythm and Pretty Series universe.
Since the release of the first King of Prism anime film in 2016, the franchise has expanded to include sequels such as King of Prism Pride the Hero (2017) and King of Prism -Shiny Seven Stars (2019). Along with the anime, the series has inspired various manga, novels, stage plays, and even a mobile game that has since been discontinued. A new browser game, King of Prism: Kirameki, is also set to launch on the G123 platform.
Fans eagerly await further announcements as the franchise takes its next steps into this new era.
