Toonami and Max to Premiere Magic and Muscles This November

by Hazel

Toonami and Max are set to deliver an exciting addition to their streaming offerings next month, featuring the highly acclaimed Shonen Jump comedy anime adaptation, Mashle: Magic and Muscles. This series is also recognized for its humorous parody of the Harry Potter franchise.

According to Toonami Squad, Mashle: Magic and Muscles, based on Hajime Komoto’s popular manga, will debut on Cartoon Network’s Toonami programming block on November 9. The release follows the conclusion of major series such as Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc, Rick and Morty: The Anime, and the chilling finale of Uzumaki, adapted from Junji Ito’s horror classic.

As the Toonami lineup transitions from these flagship titles, Mashle promises a comedic contrast, introducing a lighter tone to the programming. The series has already earned the title of Comedy Anime of the Year for 2024 from Anime Trending. The story unfolds in a familiar magical universe where the protagonist, Mash Burnedead, defies expectations by possessing no magical abilities. Instead, he relies on his extraordinary physical strength to overcome various challenges, cleverly subverting both Harry Potter-esque narratives and traditional shonen tropes.

Following its Toonami premiere, Mashle will be available on Max the next day, November 10, highlighting a growing trend in the industry toward simultaneous streaming. This dual-platform strategy enhances accessibility for both new viewers and veteran anime fans, creating a vibrant community eager to engage with the latest episodes. The collaboration between Toonami and Max reflects the brands’ adaptive evolution in a rapidly changing media landscape.

Directed by Tomonari Tanaka, known for his work on Hunter x Hunter and Naruto: Shippuden, and produced by Souta Furuhashi of Solo Leveling fame, Mashle is animated by A-1 Pictures, celebrated for its work on Sword Art Online, Fairy Tail, and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War. The series’ innovative blend of narratives from both Western and Eastern media has distinguished it as a standout title for 2023 and 2024, setting the stage for its successful streaming debut.

In this comedic fantasy, Mash, a magic-less yet physically powerful youth, resides in the forest. When his secret is unveiled, he enrolls in a magic academy, where he must rely on his strength to compete against his magically gifted classmates.
