Setback for Highly Anticipated Girls’ Love Anime Whisper Me a Love Song

by Hazel

In a disappointing turn of events for fans of the girls’ love genre, Whisper Me a Love Song has encountered significant delays as the release dates for its final two episodes remain uncertain. The production company Cloud Hearts, a co-producer of the series, is presumed to be facing bankruptcy after its official website mysteriously went offline.

Reports from IT Media News indicate that the official domain for Cloud Hearts, “cloudhearts.co.jp,” has expired and is now listed as “deleted” on the Whois Domain Lookup website. When contacted for comment, Yokohama Animation Laboratory, which collaborated with Cloud Hearts on Whisper Me a Love Song, provided no further information, simply stating, “We have nothing to say.”

Production Woes and Delayed Episodes

The difficulties surrounding Whisper Me a Love Song are not new; reports from early June highlighted serious production issues, which resulted in subpar animation quality and numerous visual errors. A whistleblower on X (formerly Twitter) revealed troubling conditions, stating, “People are mistreated. People are working overtime. And they have to sleep in their office. They can’t leave their office.” This disturbing insight added credibility to the announcement that the series would postpone the release of Episodes 9 and 10, opting instead for two recap episodes, with the remaining episodes now scheduled at an unknown date. The uncertainty surrounding Episodes 11 and 12 has heightened concerns about the studio’s future.

Broader Implications for Cloud Hearts

Cloud Hearts has been involved in other anime productions, including The New Gate, developed in conjunction with Yokohama Animation Laboratory. The studio was also part of the teams behind The Great Cleric and Rail Romanesque 2 in 2023. However, since May, Cloud Hearts has not been listed as a collaborative partner on Yokohama Animation Laboratory’s official website. Notably, Satoshi Nakatani, the producer who founded Cloud Hearts on June 1, 2021, is also no longer mentioned on the laboratory’s official “about” page.

Whisper Me a Love Song, created by Eku Takeshima, tells the story of Himari Kino, who professes her admiration for Yori Asanagi, a senior high school student and lead singer of the amateur band SSGIRLS. However, Yori misinterprets Himari’s admiration for her music as romantic interest, leading to their unofficial relationship.

Currently, episodes of Whisper Me a Love Song are licensed by Sentai Filmworks and are available for streaming on the anime service HIDIVE, while Kodansha USA distributes the manga in English. The uncertain future of the series raises concerns among its growing fanbase.
