Benesse Corporation announced on Tuesday that the 11th film in its popular Shimajirō franchise, titled Eiga Shimajirō Shimajirō to Yūki no Uta (Shimajirō the Movie: Shimajirō and the Song of Courage), will debut in March 2025.
Returning to direct is Tomohiro Kawamura, known for his work on Shimajirō to Sora Tobu Fune and Eiga Shimajirō Miracle-jima no Nanairo Carnation. The film’s script will be co-written by Masafumi Sugiura, also returning from previous films, and Brazily Ann Yamada. TOHO NEXT will handle distribution.
The voice cast includes Omi Minami, Miki Takahashi, Takumi Yamazaki, Masami Suzuki, Kikuko Inoue, Chafurin, and Minoru Inaba. The storyline follows Miley, a young white tiger who lacks confidence as she prepares for the lead role of Captain Hat in an acting troupe. Shimajirō devises a plan to boost her spirits, but their adventure takes an unexpected turn when they are pulled into a magical bag, leading them to a fantastical world.
The previous installment, Eiga Shimajirō Miracle-jima no Nanairo Carnation, premiered in Japan on March 8. The Shimajirō franchise has a rich history, beginning with the original Shima Shima Tora no Shimajirō television series, which aired from 1993 to 2008. Its sequel, Hakken Taiken Daisuki! Shimajirō, ran from 2008 to 2010, followed by Shimajirō Hesoka from 2010 to 2012. The franchise also introduced Shimajirō no Wow!, which premiered in 2012 and was nominated for an International Emmy Kids Award in 2015. The first full-length animated film, Eiga Shimajirō: Mahō no Shima no Daibōken (Shimajirō the Movie: Great Adventure on Magic Island), was released in March 2018.
