Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Reveals Reasons Behind Manga Hiatus

by Hazel

The anticipated hiatus of Jujutsu Kaisen has been clarified by its creator, Gege Akutami. The manga concluded its storyline last month, offering a satisfying resolution for protagonist Yuji Itadori and the surviving characters following their battle against Sukuna. Meanwhile, the anime adaptation continues to thrive, with potential for several seasons and movies in the pipeline.

Since its debut in 2018, Jujutsu Kaisen has achieved remarkable success within the Shonen Jump publication, leading to a widely acclaimed anime produced by Studio MAPPA that premiered in 2020. The second season, which concluded last year, focused on the intense Shibuya Incident Arc, paving the way for the upcoming third season that will adapt the Culling Game arc.

In the final arc, Itadori confronts his darker self as Sukuna transfers his essence into Megumi Fushiguro. Following the release of chapter 262, Akutami announced a three-week hiatus, leaving fans uncertain about the reason for the break. According to the 28th volume of the manga, Akutami underwent surgery for an appendix removal in June. Despite this setback, the creator remained dedicated to concluding the Jujutsu Tech narrative.

As for the anime’s future, a third season has not yet been scheduled, but speculation suggests it could premiere in 2025. With MAPPA managing multiple projects, including Hell’s Paradise and Chainsaw Man, fans may have to wait longer for the next installment.

While Akutami has not confirmed plans for a sequel in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, the ending provides a conclusive closure for the characters. However, Akutami hinted at future projects, encouraging fans to anticipate new stories, which may explore different adventures beyond Itadori and his companions.
