The Fourth Popularity Poll Results

The fourth popularity poll, featured in the 39th issue of Shonen Jump along with the release of Chapter 267, indicated a major shift in fan preferences. Sukuna, traditionally regarded as “The King of Curses,” ranked only ninth, receiving just 4,022 votes. In contrast, fellow characters Suguru Geto and Megumi Fushiguro fared significantly better, landing in fourth and third places with 19,156 and 28,502 votes, respectively.

Gojo’s Unyielding Popularity

Gojo’s popularity is a point of contention for Akutami, who has publicly expressed disdain for the character. Despite Gojo’s prominence as a fan-favorite, often overshadowing protagonist Yuji Itadori, Akutami has not shied away from criticizing him. The author has made remarks on social media that reflect a personal aversion to Gojo, stating, “Something Gojo doesn’t have… probably a personality,” and expressing relief at the character’s absence in upcoming narratives.

Understanding Akutami’s Perspective

Although the reasons behind Akutami’s animosity towards Gojo remain somewhat ambiguous, it is clear that the mangaka has intentionally placed the character at a disadvantage. This narrative decision was illustrated in Chapter 261, where Gojo’s significant powers were stripped away.

Fans can continue to follow the Jujutsu Kaisen saga through streaming on Crunchyroll and by reading the manga on Viz Media. Despite the fluctuations in character popularity, the series remains a beloved staple of the new generation of anime and manga.
