The anime originally premiered in Japan on September 28 via the ABEMA streaming service, with its broader television debut on Tokyo MX on October 5. Crunchyroll will stream Demon Lord, Retry! R across multiple regions, including North America, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS countries.

Kazuomi Koga, who worked as an episode director for the original Demon Lord, Retry!, returns to direct this new installment at studio Gekkō. Katsuhiko Takayama (Aldnoah.Zero, Protocol: Rain) is supervising the series scripts, while Minori Homura (Isekai Onsen Paradise) handles character design. The music is composed by the creator group SUPA LOVE.

Demon Lord, Retry! R is a sequel to Kanzaki’s original light novel series, Demon Lord, Retry! (Maō-sama, Retry!), which was first published in 2017. J-Novel Club has licensed the light novels, the manga, and its sequel for English-speaking audiences.

The storyline of Demon Lord, Retry! R picks up as the Demon Lord continues his quest after encountering a mysterious figure deep within the Bastille Dungeon. His journey now takes him to the Hellion Territory, where Grand Devils battle for control. With the addition of a new advisor, the eternally optimistic Akane, the Demon Lord’s colorful army embarks on even more wild and humorous adventures.

The original Demon Lord, Retry! manga adaptation by Amaru Minotake launched in October 2017 on Futabasha’s Web Comic Action site, concluding with its fifth volume in December 2019. The light novel series also inspired the first anime adaptation in July 2019, which Funimation streamed as it aired.

Kanzaki initially published the Demon Lord, Retry! story on the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” (Let’s Become Novelists) and Hameln websites between October and December 2016. Futabasha began printing the story in light novel volumes, with illustrations by Kōji Ogata, and later re-released it under the M Novels label, featuring new artwork by Makoto Iino.

The English dub of Demon Lord, Retry! R is set to bring a new dimension to this popular series for international fans, continuing the adventures of the quirky and powerful Demon Lord.
