GKids has unveiled the trailer for its highly anticipated anime film Ghost Cat Anzu, which made its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
The film centers on 11-year-old Karin, who finds herself abandoned by her father at her grandfather’s house, located in the serene Japanese countryside. Her grandfather, a local monk, enlists the help of Anzu, a playful yet unpredictable ghost cat, to care for her. The initial interactions between Karin and Anzu promise to be dynamic and full of surprises.
Ghost Cat Anzu, originally titled 化け猫あんずちゃん in Japanese, is co-directed by accomplished filmmakers Yoko Kuno and Nobuhiro Yamashita. Kuno is known for her work as a character designer and storyboard artist on the acclaimed series Land of the Lustrous, while Yamashita has directed a variety of notable films, including Hazy Life and Linda Linda Linda.
The screenplay is penned by Shinji Imaoka and is based on the manga by Takashi Imashiro. The film is produced by Shin-ei Animation (Japan) in collaboration with Miyu Productions (France).
Following its debut at Cannes, Ghost Cat Anzu opened in Japanese theaters in July. GKids will release the film in select U.S. theaters on November 15, 2024.
With its unique premise and captivating visuals, Ghost Cat Anzu promises to be a delightful addition to the anime film landscape, making it a must-see for fans this fall.
