Kyoto Animation has officially announced the release of a new film in the beloved “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid” franchise, titled Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved. This marks a significant return for the series, which has been largely dormant since the conclusion of its second season in 2021, aside from a short OVA released in 2022.
Directed by Tatsuya Ishihara, who helmed the second season, details about the film remain sparse. Initial promotional materials suggest a strong focus on the character Kanna. The teaser primarily features still images with minimal animation, leaving fans eager for more content.
While specific information about the Japanese and international release dates is still forthcoming, it has been confirmed that the original Japanese voice cast will reprise their roles for the main characters. An English dub is also expected to retain the core cast. Additionally, Crunchyroll is anticipated to offer international streaming a few months after the film’s theatrical debut. Although it remains uncertain whether the film will receive an international theatrical release, Crunchyroll’s recent trend of showcasing non-battle shonen titles in theaters keeps this possibility alive.
For those unfamiliar, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid follows the life of Kobayashi, a software programmer and otaku, who encounters a dragon named Tohru. Tohru, capable of assuming human form, becomes Kobayashi’s maid, leading to a series of comedic adventures. The first two seasons of this popular series are currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
