Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for its highly anticipated anime series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, offering fans an exhilarating preview of what’s to come. Scheduled for release this October, the series promises a high-octane adventure that sees Lara Croft embarking on a global quest filled with intense car chases, daring leaps, and dramatic underwater escapades.
Set in the aftermath of the Survivor video game trilogy—comprising 2013’s Tomb Raider, 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider, and 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider—the anime follows Lara Croft as she steps away from her friends to tackle increasingly hazardous solo missions. According to the official synopsis, the plot centers on Croft’s return to her home after a powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor. The thief, bearing a troubling personal connection, propels Lara into a worldwide chase through ancient, hidden tombs, challenging her self-perception and forcing her to define her role as a hero.
Hayley Atwell, renowned for her portrayal of Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, lends her voice to Lara Croft, while Earl Baylon reprises his role as Jonah from the Survivor series. The series is written and showrun by Tasha Huo, who is also involved in upcoming adaptations of Red Sonja and Naruto. The animation is provided by Powerhouse Animation, known for their work on Netflix’s Castlevania, Masters of the Universe, and the MonsterVerse spin-off Skull Island.
